1、
Apple's patent for snap-on iPhone gaming accessories that extend in-game controls with D-pads and buttons has been accepted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office today.

Apple Insider acquired all the details of the patent, which includes a large physical gamepad with a recess at its centre that your iPhone slots into.

It connects through the hardware or Bluetooth so that you can use the gamepad's D-pad, action buttons, and joysticks instead of the touchscreen to control the game.

You can also connect it to a monitor using Wi-Fi so that you can play iPhone games on a bigger screen.

The important part of the design is that it saves screen space unlike, say, virtual D-pads and buttons.

Obviously, there are third-party MFi game pads already available, but Apple is looking to keep this style of game pad for itself with this patent.

The patent also covers other physical iPhone add-ons. There's a QWERTY keyboard, one with an extra camera, speaker and microphone, and another that seems to add a trackpad-like touch input.

TechCrunch notes that the likeliness of this patent actually leading to any physical products isn't high.

One of the reasons being that the patent dates back to 2008.

The other being that the problems this patent may address have already been solved by more recent Apple products and third-party efforts.

2、LifeAfter
The "reverse Mario" platformer Kill the Plumber may have been rejected by Apple for a launch on iOS but nothing has stopped its arrival on Android.

As we covered a couple of days ago, the game's developer Bari Silvestre was told by Apple that Kill the Plumber "includes content or features that resemble a well-known third-party material, Super Mario Bros."

Well, yeah, that's the point. The game has you playing as Mario's enemies while trying to stop him reaching the end of the level. (Except it's just a plumber and not one name Mario.)

- "I never heard you make such a bitter partisan speech before, Captain Jim. I didn't think you had so much political venom in you," laughed Anne, who was not much excited over the tidings. Little Jem had said "Wow-ga" that morning. What were principalities and powers, the rise and fall of dynasties, the overthrow of Grit or Tory, compared with that miraculous occurrence?
-
RuneFest 2019 was packed with announcements for both RuneScape and Old School, so many that I thought it best to compile them in one handy article. Along with the major reveals came some smaller highlights that you may well have missed, even if you attended this year’s event or watched the stream.

First off, here are all the major announcements from RuneFest 2019:
RuneScape Mobile's latest skill, Archaeology, announced at RuneFest 2019Old School RuneScape's Morytania expansion and Leagues game mode announced at RuneFest 2019RuneScape Mobile launches into early access later this year
The organisers clearly pulled out all the stops to create a small, interactive part of Anachronia, the Land Out of Time. If you’re not hugely familiar with the game’s world, Anachronia is home to dinosaurs, one of which you can see below.

There was a huge volcano near the centre of the area that would “erupt” periodically. I also really enjoyed collecting the various skill chips by completing mini-games dotted around the event hall. All told, I found plenty of stuff to do during my time there, and the talks I attended were all insightful and interesting – even as someone who doesn’t have extensive knowledge of the games.

The annual Golden Gnomes took place on the Friday before the event proper. If you’re not familiar with the awards, they aim to celebrate the best of the game’s community, fans, and content creators. The highest honours, Community Champion, went to Prezleek for her popular RuneScape comic series. A huge applause also went to Settled, an Old School RuneScape YouTuber, who took home the Best OSRS Video Maker award. A full list of winners can be seen here.

Jagex CEO Phil Mansell announced that a whopping £175,000+ had been raised by the company’s Charitable Giving initiative. This was split between three mental health charities: CPSL MIND, The Princes Trust, and Rise Above the Disorder (RAD). Representatives from the charities were each presented with an oversized cheque for £58,545 in front of what must have been a couple thousand attendees.
Check out our news section to discover the latest, and greatest, games.
"You'll stay right here with me, Anne-girl," said Gilbert lazily. "I won't have you flying away from me into the hearts of storms."
